Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after that period of that year.
The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to secure a title is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.
But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.
He defended four early-game chances in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
